Week 12- Final Performance Evaluation

At the beginning of the term, I set my self some objectives that I wanted to have accomplished by the end of the task. My first objective was to find a creative process that I could work with in order to the choreograph my piece. I found that I was able to find one to choreograph but at the beginning I did struggle to settle into this process, to overcome this I tried to experiment with different ways of choreographing such as improvisation and also through words. However, I found all of these quite difficult, so in the end I wrote movements down and then performed them an I found this a lot more natural to create movement. This process was me listening to the music and then writing down the movements that I pictured in my head rather than dancing them straight away. After this I really tried to set the timing and then danced it afterwards.

Another objective was to be able to research my stimulus enough so that I could develop movements that I felt were reflective of my narrative. My research consisted of the movement of particles in gases and also when in pressured conditions. When I reached the consequence stage of my piece I became lost for movements that I felt mirrored the effects of climate change, to overcome this I then researched more into the origins of how these things come about. One consequence that I particularly looked into was tsunamis, I discovered it starts off from a small whirlpool which then develops into a tidal wave. Subsequently, I then developed movements that reflected this.

In the future,  I feel as though I should come up with ways to remember my choreography more effectively. During my performance, I did forget a section of my piece and froze. Now that I have experienced this, I know that I should improvise when things go wrong. However, to avoid this in the first place I feel that I should get someone to dictate my notes to me; this will mirror a lesson environment where I learn things quickly. I also realise that me forgetting my dance took away form the narrative, but I would like to think that if it was all performed that my narrative came across clearly. If I was to perform this on a stage I would consider the lighting to start off quite cold wont a blue, and then let it increase ion warmth as the dance went on and eventually end in red to show the danger of our actions.
